Start with the phone lying FLAT, screen up — bottom edge toward you, top edge pointing at this screen. The amber mark on its right edge is the probe indicator. Tilting fans, turning it rotates, heeling it sideways rocks, and dragging a finger on its screen slides; a slider on the phone presses. Both devices need an internet connection; nothing personal is sent.

Starting…

On the body

Two drawings, because two of the three windows are on the flanks. The front view carries the windows and the probe's height; the cross-section beside it is the body at the probe's own level, seen from above, and that is where the footprint travels around the body. Both are drawn from the model's own ellipse, ribs and costal margin — not from a picture of one.
Window — Right flank, Left flank or Suprapubic (keys 1, 2, 3), or tap one on either drawing. Each window keeps its own probe position, so you can go back and forth.
Slide — drag the footprint up and down the front view to move along the body; drag around the cross-section to move forward or back around it. On the suprapubic window, which is flat on the front, dragging sideways there works too.
Rotate — drag the knob on the ring. The amber dot on the footprint is the indicator, and it matches the amber dot on the image.
Fan / rock — drag the dot on the tilt pad. Up/down fans the plane sideways through the tissue; left/right rocks the beam within the plane, toward the feet (◀) or the head (▶). Double-tap the pad to level the probe.
Press — on the suprapubic window only, the gauge pushes the probe in above the pubis.
Trendelenburg — head down (P). The torso does not move; what changes is where the fluid goes, so the upper quadrants fill at smaller volumes.
Phone probe — 📱 in the Probe panel shows a code and a QR. Open probe.html on a phone, enter the code, and the phone in your hand becomes the probe: lay it flat with the top edge toward this screen (amber right edge = indicator), then tilt, twist and heel it; drag a finger on its screen to slide. The probe starts flat on the skin, giving a transverse cut — indicator toward the patient's front on the right flank, toward the back on the left, to the patient's left over the pubis — and one quarter turn the same way round in every window brings it to the coronal view with the indicator at the head.

Reading the screen

A curvilinear probe: the top of the picture is the curved probe face, and the picture widens with depth. The amber dot marks the side of the screen the indicator points to: left in the abdominal convention (default), right if you switch to cardiac.
Dark noisy wedges are shadow from ribs, the pubis or bowel gas. Nothing behind them is seen and nothing behind them counts — slide into a rib space, press, or aim around them. In this torso the footprint spans more than one rib space, so 40 % of a flank frame in shadow is normal.
Free fluid is labelled in amber, and the line under the nearest-view card counts how much of it is in the frame — measured on the image you are actually looking at, not read off the case.
Freeze and save — Freeze on the bezel (or F) holds the picture; Save image downloads what is on the screen — live or frozen, with labels, depth scale and captions — as a PNG file.
Depth — the − / + buttons on the bezel (or [ and ]) set the image depth from 8 to 24 cm; the readout is at the bottom right of the screen. Depth is display only: it never changes a view's definition or a score.
Image detail — while the probe moves the picture is drawn quickly; once it is still it is redrawn sharper in the background. Detail on the bezel: Auto picks the sharpest your machine keeps smooth, High and Max force 2× and 4×, Off keeps the quick picture. Nothing that is scored or measured ever depends on it.

What this version does

Explore — drive the probe, pick the case, and the card names the nearest standard view and what it is for. Acquire scoring and the Read rounds are the next version; the scoring rules are already built and checked (views.js).
The four views — right upper quadrant, left upper quadrant, pelvic transverse and pelvic sagittal. The pelvic views differ for a female and a male case, and the app follows the case you set.
Where the fluid goes — supine, the pelvis fills first, then the fluid wraps the caudal tip of the liver, and only then does Morison's pouch open. The splenorenal space fills last, at the maximum volume. The left upper quadrant view is centred on the interface between the spleen and the diaphragm: without it, that quadrant cannot be called positive or negative.
